Poultry Examination protocol
Chickens, turkeys, guinea fowl, ducks and geese all come under the poultry category.
The information gained from collecting the history and from the clinical examination is vitally important as it determines the diagnosis, treatment and /or whether further diagnostic tests are needed.
- Collect history
- Record relevant biometric data
- Clinical examination
- Discuss treatment/diagnostic plan then either:
- Collect samples
- Diagnostic tests
- Hospitalisation for critical care or
- Home on treatment
The three specialists at the Avian and Exotic Animal Clinic have been commissioned by the British Small Animal Veterinary Centre to contribute their knowledge to the production of a textbook for veterinary surgeons on the diseases and treatments of these birds. This is due for publication in early 2014.
